KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday obtained a seven-day remand order on a 25-year-old Pakistani to facilitate investigation into the murder of real estate agent Tang Yong Ching.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Adnan Abdullah said police would also request the court to extend the remand order against the suspect's accomplice, another Pakistani.
Adnan said the first suspect, who worked as a security guard, had been living in the country for a year while the second suspect, who was studying at a local college, had only been here for about a month.
"Checks on the student showed he had entered the country on June 13."
He said police were looking for several other foreigners in connection with the case.
On the possibility that the two could be members of a gang which abducted locals for money, Adnan said police were investigating.
"It is still too early to say."
As for the cause of death, Adnan said it was not conclusive because of the highly decomposed body.
"We will have to wait for the post-mortem report," he said.
Tang, 45, was reported missing on July 5 by his wife, Ng Mooi Ning, 42, after he failed to return home from an appointment with a house buyer.
Police got a breakthrough two days later when they picked up the security guard who attempted to use Tang's debit card.
The suspect refused to cooperate initially but finally cracked on Thursday, and led police to the body. Tang was found clad in his underwear. There were several wounds on the body.
The suspect also led police to Tang's silver Toyota Innova which was parked on the roadside in Jalan PJU 3/44 in Sunway Damansara.
Tang's body was claimed by his family members on Friday night from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary and taken to their home in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, for prayers.
His youngest sister, who declined to be named, said Tang was supposed to take his family out shopping on that day when someone called him to check on a property.
She said Tang, the ninth of 10 siblings, was very close to his two children.
"He was a hands-on dad who would send his children to school.
"In the evening, he would take his 11-year-old son to play football. He was very kind and helpful to his siblings, too."
She said Tang became a real estate agent six years ago to spend more time with his family.
"He was a software engineer and was always travelling. He quit as he wanted to spend more time with his family." Additional reporting by Muzliza Mustafa
